Is your product easy to understand/visualize/model for your online customers?

  • Make sure your products have detailed descriptions, photographs, videos, and specifications so that the sales you make online stay finalized and are not returned due to inaccurate descriptions

If you sell your product online, can you sell it at an acceptable profit margin once you factor in the merchant fees, shipping, and handling costs?

  • If your items are low profit margin items, you may need to sell in bulk
  • If your items are time sensitive or perishable, you will need fast delivery and adequate packing materials
  • Keep in mind that there will be certain fees involved in the physical sale of the item, including per transaction fees from your payment gateway or merchant account
  • Also keep in mind that your online store will likely have recurring monthly hosting fees

Can your product/service be delivered in a digital format online or via email?

  • If your products are software or digital based, you may be able to achieve higher profit margins by offering immediate digital delivery of your product
  • If your product is a subscription based service, be sure to think about how you will charge your customers for "renewals" of the service, such as automatic billing on a monthly basis

Are you targeting customers within your local area or a global audience?

  • Keep your site focused on your target market. If you are selling tickets to a local event, someone across the globe will not likely be interested in your product

Do you know what type of sales volume to expect? Do you know your target volume?
